The Stove’s Shootouts (Week 3 Review)
September 26, 2007

The only thing it can be is a big joke on us. For the NFL to formally make it “against the rules” to have cheerleaders practicing near the opposing team’s locker room is merely a funny story planted for us to solely keep talking about the NFL, and not Michael Vick, nor the Cowboys signing Tank Johnson….

Here’s hoping you got your points out of the Week 3 shootouts. You guys believers yet in the Stove?

WEEK 3:

Match up: CIN @ SEA:
Favorable Result: QB,WR(2) QB,WR(3)
The only surprise here was that SEA’s #3 WR was meaningful, not CIN’s #3. From here on forward, SEA is a solid shootout companion. CIN, along with DET, have horrid pass D’s, which makes their QBs fantasy platinum. I picked up Engram, dropped him for Burleson, and picked up Engram again. Heck, I don’t know. What do you (NW area) guys think?

Match up: IND @ HOU:
Favorable Result: RB,TE TE
The points scored were there, but IND slowly built a lead, with HOU scoring two 4th qtr TDs to make it seem close. The result being that TE’s were the dominate pass receivers. Jeez, was the loss of AJ that pivotal in how the game would play out? Please come back, soon, former Cane.

Match up: TEN @ NO:
Favorable Result: WR RB
The talking heads hyped up the Young vs. Bush rivalry. Who the %^$# cares? Young hurts his hand just before the half, and we get the sideline reporter with the great hair tell us that he must be OK because he’s slapping encouragement on his teammates’ pads with the same hand before the kick off. They actually pay adults serious money for this insight?

We then heard over and over about the Saints not being in “rhythm”. And a guy named Lance Moore got the most looks for the Saints. You think TEN was happy to let that guy catch a few balls? With the Week 4 bye, it’s going to take at least three more weeks until I start Brees again, if at all.

Match up: DET @ PHI:
Favorable Result: QB,WR(2) QB,RB,WR
My stud Westbrook set an all-time record in my “experts” league. If you were not in this game somehow, shame on you. Martz madness has set in at the Stove. Feel free to FFTOC-cycle through FOUR DET WRs this year. Oh yeah, I must add that PHI’s career-day WR, Curtis, was a Martz draftee. They better get their QB coach ready, because Martz is gone after this year, maybe to TB (yes, Gruden to PHI). Too bad they gave the dome-ball to Petrino in ATL.

Match up: SD @ GB:
Favorable Result: QB,TE,WR QB,WR(2)
GB can’t run worth &&^%, and with a gunslinger throwing, we have the other formula for fantasy platinum. Who do you (Cheesehead) guys like better, Jones or Jennings? You have to love how GB closed out the game, against a quality opponent. At least SD now has Montana State and Temple on their schedule now.

Oddsmaker Misses: NE, DAL, MIA
Low scoring opponents only reason. Yes, MIA is coming along…..you laugh?? Their secondary can’t cover that sideline reporter.

STL and CAR dropped off the face of the earth, with both clubs’ QBs dinged. Along with HOU and NO, these clubs are in wait-and-see fantasy purgatory. NO makes me want to throw up. But, c’mon, you didn’t anticipate HOU to do so well, did you?

YOUR TURN
Just sitting back and watching doesn’t cut it at the Hot Stove. You want something, you have to go after it. Give us your opinion, your insights, what you think are trends. Oh, and no “Who do I start?” questions, OK?
